While many celebrities have started talking to their fans directly through social networks, some hallyu stars have gone even further to gather over a million followers on Twitter.
The first Korean celebrity to get a million followers was the writer Lee Oi Soo. He got his millionth follower in November 2011. The writer was closely followed by Super Junior member Choi Siwon.
A year since Lee Oi Soo first broke the line, as of October 2012 there are a total of 11 Korean stars who have more than a million followers, and two of them even have 2 million. Choi Siwon, the first idol to have a million followers, still reigns at the top with 2.74 million followers.
Second place goes to fellow Super Junior member Donghae, with 2.4 million followers. The next two ranks are also Super Junior members, with Leeteuk at third with 1.76 million and Yesung at fourth with 1.65 million.
Lee Oi Soo stands at no. 5 with 1.40 million followers. Eunhyuk follows closely with 1.34 million, and Suzy, the first female Korean star to have a million followers, can be found in seventh place with 1.32 million followers.
Super Junior′s BoA is at no. 8 with 1.19 million, Shindong is at no. 9 with 1.12 million and Kyuhyun is at no. 10 with 1.05 million. The most recent addition was JYJ member Kim Jae Joong with just over a million followers, proving the international support he garnered through his activities as a singer and his acting roles in Protect the Boss and Dr. Jin.
